Your destination - Boulder

Scenic Boulder is located in northern Colorado northwest of Denver in a fertile valley at the foot of the Flatiron Range of the Rocky Mountains. This trendy mountain resort area is not only one of the nation's most sophisticated art centers but also a major center of education and research. As the site of the University of Colorado, it is home to such research institutes as the Center for Theoretical Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics; the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research; and the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research. Boulder gets much of its water from the Arapaho Glacier, which the city owns. Population is estimated at some 83,000.

A mecca for outdoor enthusiasts all year round, the Boulder area is world famous for its snow capped mountains and world class ski resorts, its lake and reservoir beaches and boating, its national forests and parks, rivers and streams, wildlife refuges, ancient Indian ruins, its rock climbing or bouldering, and more than 120 miles of trails for hikers, bikers, walkers, and horseback riders.

Economically, the area is rich in agriculture, minerals, electronics, and space related industries. It is served by modern rail and road systems and the Denver International Airport. Notable and diversified points of interest include the Boulder Museum of History; the city's International Folk Dances; the Boulder Philharmonic and Boulder Ballet; the Bach Festival and Rocky Mountain Chorale; the Shakespeare Festival; the Jazz Workshop; the Nomad Theatre; Colorado's oldest community theatre; the Upstart Crow Theatre Company; and the annual Colorado Dance Festival and Colorado Music Festival.

Boulder was settled in 1858 as a mining community, and was incorporated as a town in 1871. Arrival of the railroad two years later stimulated the area's economy. The history of Boulder’s commitment to environmental development and its natural beauty and land preservation can be dated back to 1898 and the purchase of Chautaugua Park at the foot of Flagstaff Mountain.
